Multi-function receiver
DRIVE
January 2, 2004
A multi-function receiver (10) attenuates pressure fluctuations of refrigerant flowing from an evaporator (18) to a compressor (14) in an air conditioning system (12). The receiver (10) includes a body housing (40) having an inlet (28) for receiving the refrigerant from a condenser (16) and an outlet (30) for sending the refrigerant to the compressor (14). A cap housing (42) covers the body housing (40). The receiver (10) also includes first and second ports (44, 46) defined within the cap housing (42). The first port (44) communicates with the evaporator (18) for sending the refrigerant to the evaporator (18), and the second port (46) communicates with the evaporator (18) for receiving the refrigerant from the evaporator (18). An internal wall (48) defines an outer and an inner cavity (50, 52). The outer cavity (50) communicates with the inlet (28) for receiving the refrigerant from the condenser (16) and with the first port (44) for sending the refrigerant to the evaporator (18). The inner cavity (52) communicates with the second port (46) to receive the refrigerant from the evaporator (18) and to attenuate the pressure fluctuations. The inner cavity (52) also communicates with the outlet (30) for sending the refrigerant to the compressor (14) after the pressure fluctuations have been attenuated.
