System for detecting a lane change

Driver assistance system for motor vehicles with an electronic unit and a camera with which lane markings are monitored so that lane changes can be recognized. The electronic unit also contains the motor vehicle navigation system and the information available from it can be used to modify the behavior of the lane change monitoring system by consideration of the type of road on which the vehicle is, e.g. single lane or multiple lane with a hard shoulder.
