The start and end of injection are calculated in terms of the operational state and loading demand. Duration (TF) of the delivery phase of the high pressure pump (220) is calculated. The metering valve (230) is controlled such that pump delivery timing is symmetrical with the start and end of injection. Independent claims are included for the corresponding computer program and controller.
