Vehicle seat occupant retaining system

A retaining system (1) wherein at least one airbag type retaining device (5) and one seat-belt type retaining device (6) are connected to a seat (3) of a vehicle (4). The retaining system (1) has sensors (21) for acquiring data indicating the physical characteristics and/or location inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle (4) of the occupant (2) of the seat (3), and for predicting the impact mode of the vehicle (4) with an obstacle, so as to control operation of the airbag type retaining device (5) and electric/explosive pretensioning devices (15, 16, 17) connected to the seat-belt (14).
