"textContent": "The system tests the efficiency of a catalyst converter (42), in the exhaust pipe (40) of an automobile exhaust system (16) from an internal combustion motor (14) with direct petrol or diesel fuel injection, to oxidize the reduction elements within the exhaust gas at a given efficiency level. The catalyst is tested when the exhaust gas temperature is higher than a reference temperature. Initially, the exhaust gas temperature is measured upstream of the catalyst. In a second stage, the efficiency of the catalyst is estimated by measurement of the carbon monoxide content in the exhaust gas downstream of the catalyst. The catalyst is registered as serviceable if the efficiency level is above the minimum rating. The sensors are linked to an on-board electronic unit (68).",
