Method for operating a fuel cell system

The fuel cell system has at least one fuel cell stack (1) with a reformer (2) for producing process gas rich in hydrogen from hydrocarbons and a regulator (5) controlling the input volumetric flow, especially the combustion gas flow into the reformer. The method involves taking power from the fuel cell stack so as to set up a predefined voltage and/or voltage gradient.
