Connecting rod for reciprocating piston machine, especially V-type engine
DRIVE
November 5, 2003
The connecting rod is designed to avoid bending stresses. The big end (4) has a split bearing with the split (9-10') set at an angle and the bolts (6) holding the bearing cap (3) set at an angle to the axis (GE) of the connecting rod. The gas pressure is exerted along this axis and the bearing shells are symmetrical with respect to this axis. There is a ridge (12a) projecting from one side of the big end bearing, and a flat face (12b) closer to the centerline on the other side.
