The method involves a first partial charging process per accumulator with constant current and a second partial charging process with constant voltage. Only one accumulator is charged by the charger at any time. A first accumulator is charged with constant current in the first partial charging process, following which a change is made to the second accumulator whose charging starts with the first partial charging process. The method involves carrying out a first partial charging process per accumulator with a constant charging current and a second partial charging process with a constant charging voltage, whereby only one accumulator is being charged by the charger at any time and a first accumulator is charged with a constant charging current during the first partial charging process. Following the first partial charging process for the first accumulator a change is made to the second accumulator whose charging starts with the first partial charging process.
