A device for controlling a monitor display (11) for a motor vehicle. The monitor is split into an analogue instrument display area (15) and a menu area. The menu area has a fixed display section and a flexible display section (17). The latter can be controlled using speech recognition or manual means. Accordingly the menu selection elements are also keywords for the speech processor.
