Exhaust turbocharger

DRIVE September 10, 2003
Source
The exhaust gas turbocharger (1) has an exhaust turbine (2) driving two compressors (3,4) partly directly or via the interconnection of a gear stage (5) in such a way that a first compressor (3) has higher RPM than the exhaust turbine and the second compressor (4) has the same RPM as the exhaust turbine. The first gearwheel (6) of the gear stage is installed on a shaft (9) connecting the turbine to the second compressor, and the second gearwheel (7) on the shaft of the first compressor, with both gearwheels meshing with an intermediate gearwheel (8).
