The cavity in the piston plate and the section of the piston (3) inside this cavity have a larger cross-section than an adjoining section of the piston in the direction away from the piston plate. The pump (1) is used to supply fuel to injection systems for internal combustion machinery, especially common rail injection systems, and comprises a drive shaft (2) and at least two pistons which are movable by the shaft in order to compress the fuel. A piston plate between the shaft and pistons contains a cavity in which a section of the piston is located.
