Polymerisable bifunctional bis-sulfonyl monomers of formula (I) are new and can be (co)polymerised to form ion exchange polymers. Bifunctional monomers of formula (I) are new. (T-SO2-Y-SO2T') M (I) T and T' = organic radicals comprising at least one active polymerization function such as an unsaturated group or a ring capable of opening; M = an organic or inorganic cation; Y = N or CQ in which Q = H, CN, F, SO2, R, optionally substituted 1-20 C alkyl, optionally substituted 1-20 C aryl or optionally substituted 1-20 C alkylene in which the substitutents = one or more halogens and in which the chains contain one or more F, SO2R, aza, oxa, thia or dioxathia substituents; R = F, optionally substituted 1-20 C alkyl, optionally substituted 1-20 C aryl or optionally substituted 1-20 C alkylene in which the substituent = one or more halogens.
