A distributing valve (33) is formed as a continuously adjustable valve, which is controlled by a control device based on the operating state of the internal combustion engine and/or the fuel injection system. The valve may be a single-stage three-way valve, with an input connected to the pressure side of a pre-conveying pump (1), an output connected to the suction side of pump elements (19), and a second input connected to the low pressure region of the fuel jetting pump (17). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method of generating and supplying fuel; (2) a control device for a fuel injection system; and (3) a computer program.
