The method involves using a number of transducers (SG) equidistantly spaced around the shaft, with a gap (GL) without transducers. The time interval parameters (T(n)) of the signal pulses (SI) output from sequential transducers is determined, and one time interval parameter is allocated to at least one transducer position (n) in the region of the transducer gap (GL), the parameter being determined for a transducer position that is periodically offset by a predetermined angle (alpha). Independent claims are also included for an apparatus for determining rotation speed, and for a controller for a starter-generator in a motor vehicle
