The fuel cell block has a stack of planar fuel cells and a stack of planar moistening cells (1), each with a gas chamber (17), a moistening water chamber (15) and a water-permeable membrane (5) arranged between the two chambers. Each moistening cell has a planar heating element (7) adjacent to the gas chamber.
