Method and system for partitioning the surface of the earth

The method involves forming territorial sections, regions or areas starting from the equator (30) with which essentially equally sized north-south dimensions are associated and with which at least approximately equal east-south dimensions are associated. Each map unit (10) is addressed via its north-south and east west positions. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for graduating the Earth's surface; (2) a navigation device.
