The cords have a wave form prior to tire vulcanization the wave amplitude being different in the edge (A), central (C) and intermediate (B) areas between them. Wave amplitude in the center area is greater than that in the intermediate area (B) and amplitude in the edge regions in less than that in the intermediate area. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a process for manufacturing the tire in which strips (24,25,26) comprising cords embedded in elastomer are wound onto a breaker layer on a tire building drum ands have different wave amplitudes in two, preferably three areas; and (2) a process in which strips (27) of elastomer wires with equal wave amplitude are helically wound onto a carcass and breaker layer on a drum. The strips have 1-15 parallel cords and the tension during winding is varied so that wave amplitude varies in different areas.",
