Position sensor and method as well as apparatus for monitoring a position sensor

A position transmitter (15) is proposed which comprises two sensors (16, 18) for detecting the position of an aggregate connected to it, one sensor of which has an essentially linear characteristic, while the other sensor exhibits a step-like progression in a predetermined position range. Furthermore, a method and a device are proposed with the aid of which the signals of the two sensors are checked for plausibility to monitor the functionality of the position transmitter.
