The operating method has at least part of the fuel injected into the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine, for providing stratified injection, the operations (62-66) required for operation of the engine defined by an operating raster (SYNCHRO 1) which is synchronized with a crankshaft rotation angle. The fuel injection quantity for the stratified injection (72) is determined at the beginning of a second operating raster (SYNCHRO 2) synchronized with the crankshaft rotation. Also included are Independent claims for the following:- (a) a computer program for operation of an automobile internal combustion engine; (b) a control and/or regulating device for an automobile engine.
