According to the invention, the vehicle seat (1) and the adjacent side wall (2) of the vehicle are arranged relative to each other such that an occupant located on the vehicle seat (1) is held at least in his head region (4,5) by elements (3,9) of the vehicle seat (1) and/or of the side wall (2) at a minimum distance (A) from an exit opening of the side airbag module (6).
