A method of producing a pneumatic tire having a reinforcement cord layer at least in a tread portion, wherein the cord layer is formed of sheet members arranged side-by-side in a circumferential direction of the tire. To this end, a sheet member (3A) having a predetermined length is prepared by cutting a continuous cord strip (3) comprised of a rubber material and longitudinally oriented cords embedded in the rubber material. The sheet member is applied onto an outer peripheral surface of a rotating support (2) either directly or indirectly, by urging the sheet member onto the outer peripheral surface of a rotating support at a point that is moved in an axial direction of the support, while controlling at least one of the angular speed of the support and/or the moving speed of the urging point is controlled while the urging point is axially moved from one side of the support to the other, so that, as seen in a developed view of the cord layer, the cords extend at the center portion and the side portions of the cord layer, with respectively predetermined cord angles.
