Independent claims are included for: (1) a system for monitoring the performance of a tire comprising temperature sensors at critical positions in the tire and a transmitter (24) which sends the signals produced to a processor which monitors their size and duration and produces a warning when these exceed a preset threshold; and (2) a method for fitting a temperature sensor in a tire which comprises: (i) forming a channel in the rubber which passes through the tire shoulder ; (ii) fitting a small tube into the channel; (iii) fitting the sensor into the tube; (iv) removing the tube; and (v) sealing the channel with the sensor in position.",
