The valve unit (50) is for use in a braking system of a tractor unit, for controlling the braking of a towed vehicle. It comprises valve devices (70, 90, 64) with a single piston (70) which can perform an operative movement between a rest position and a floating, working position, during service braking. The piston (70) can also perform a further movement towards a position in which it can bring about closure of a stop valve (80, 90c) when the pressure difference between a control chamber (F) and an output chamber (D) exceeds a predetermined value.
