The families record the relationships between the operational phase of the engine, e.g., idling, normal operation etc. and the factors which influence it, e.g. speed, Lambda value, load, air temperature etc. determined experimentally in full for each operational phase. The method involves taking fewer measurement values and applying commonly known numerical, particularly statistical, evaluation and calculation methods to determine the remaining values.
