DRIVE
December 18, 2002
A clutch device (16) operates as a multiple/double clutch with first (18) and second (20) clutch mechanisms allocated to first (24) and second (26) gear selector shafts respectively in order to choose whether to link a drive shaft (22) for a drive unit (12) to the first or second gear selector shaft for transferring moment. A gearbox (14) has forward and reverse gears. Gearbox operating conditions can be adjusted by means of a control mechanism (30) operated by a driver and/or by a control unit operating the gearbox and, if required, the clutch device, so that reverse and forward gearshifts are engaged simultaneously. An Independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle to select forward and reverse gears with a gear selector shaft.
