The fuel injection system has a high pressure fuel pump (14) supplying a common rail (15) provided with fuel injectors (22-25) for each of the engine cylinders. A pressure limiting valve (49) is at least partially integrated in the common rail at the opposite end to the fuel pump, with a low pressure seal between the pressure limiting valve and the common rail.
