Vehicle open roof

Opening vehicle roof comprises at least one cover (10, 12) moved backward out of a roof-closing position along a roof guide path (14) into the vehicle tailgate (16). The tailgate has a guide path (22) for the cover and pivots about a transverse axis (18) at its upper end between a closed position and an open position. The guide paths and the tailgate are designed so that the cover is transferred into the tailgate when the tailgate is in a transfer position lying between the closed position and the open position. Preferred Features: The tailgate is almost horizontal in the transfer position. The guide paths are rails, preferably in the form of extruded aluminum profiles.
