Dispensing correction weights

A system is disclosed for dispensing an amount of imbalance correction weight (12) for attachment to a rotary element (14) to reduce an imbalance in the rotary element (14). The imbalance correction weight (12) includes a number of individual weights (16) provided on a length of double-sided adhesive tape (18). A guide (64) directs the imbalance correction weight (12) through a channel provided by the guide (64) toward a tape divider (30). A driver (49) pulls a protective backing (22) away from the tape (18) causing the imbalance correction weight to move through the channel toward the tape divider (30). A sensor (28) counts the individual weights (16) that move past it. When the sensor (28) has counted a desired number of individual weights (16), a controller (25) instructs the driver (49) to stop pulling on the protective backing (22) thereby stopping movement of the imbalance correction weight (12) and then instructs the tape divider (30) to divide the tape (18) to provide the correct amount of imbalance correction weight. A weight applicator (34) automatically receives the amount of imbalance correction weight (12) and is operable to attach it to the rotary element (14).
