The device has a base body with a forward load axle and a rear steering axle, lifting gear mounted on the base body for a height adjustable load bearer and a driver's position on the base body with a driver's seat, steering arrangement and control elements. The base body has an upwardly open battery compartment and the driver's position is mounted on a cover that can be slid horizontally on the base body to expose the battery compartment. The device has a base body (10) with a forward load axle and a rear steering axle, a lifting gear mounted on the base body for a height adjustable load bearer and a driver's position (24) on the base body with a driver's seat, steering arrangement and control elements. The base body has an upwardly open accommodation chamber for the battery (38) and the driver's position is mounted on a cover (34) that can be slid approximately horizontally on the upper side of the base body to expose the battery compartment when required.
