An adjusting unit alters the spread of light only if a difference between a first control voltage (U) and a second control voltage (U1) corresponding to an actual position is greater than a preset voltage corresponding to an inactive window (RF) around the actual position. Before emitting a control voltage (U5) that corresponds to a set point position and has a difference from the second control voltage that is smaller than the voltage corresponding to the inactive window, a control unit emits a control voltage (U2) that has a difference from the second control voltage that is greater than the preset voltage corresponding to the inactive window so that the adjusting unit begins to adjust the spread of light. An Independent claim is also included for a device for regulating a motor vehicle's light beam spread.",
