The subject of the present invention is a method for controlling the discharge of a battery comprising modules constituted of at least one electrochemical generator which comprises the following steps: (a) at an instant t one measures a voltage Vz(t) of each module z, and a discharge current I(t), (b) one calculates the internal resistance IRz(t) of each module z such that IRz(t) = Vz(t) / I(t), (c) at an instant t one measures a voltage Vz(t) of each module z and a discharge current I(t), (d) one calculates the internal resistance IRz(t) of each module z such that IRz(t) = Vz(t) / I(t), (e) one calculates the slope of variation of the internal resistance IRSz of each module z between the instants t and t such that IRSz = [IRz(t) - IRz(t)] / I(t), (f) one calculates the maximum value IRS and the average value IRS of the slopes of variation of the internal resistance of all modules, (g) one calculates a difference DIRS such that DIRS = IRS - IRS (h) one compares the difference DIRS to a criterion K determined experimentally, (i) one stops the first discharge phase when DIRS is greater than or equal to K, after correction of the slope dI/dt of the variation of the discharge current I(t) over time.
