The present invention provides a battery comprising a cathode having a plurality of discharging regions within an operational potential range, an anode having a first irreversible capacity (AIR), a separator for electrically insulating the cathode and the anode and an electrolyte for electrochemically reacting the cathode and the anode wherein a potential of the cathode in a completely discharged state is at least equal or greater than the highest potential among the plurality of discharging regions.
