The invention relates to a method for removing carbon monoxide from a gas stream, wherein a gas stream loaded with CO is passed through a device and CO is removed from the gas stream by adsorption at the working electrode (3). Depending on an electrical voltage between the working electrode (3) and counter electrode (4) or between the working electrode and reference electrode (5), an electrode cleaning operation is switched on by triggering a current flow between the working electrode and counter electrode and oxidizing CO adsorbed at the working electrode to CO2.
