Method for manufacturing microstructured sheets

DRIVE August 28, 2002
Source
Production of microstructured regions comprises applying microstructures in the surface of one side of a sheet in a continuous embossing step whilst the surface structure of the other side of the sheet is not changed. The embossing step uses a roller having a negative of the microstructure to be embossed. The edges of the microstructure form an angle of 5 degrees to the vertical and contain the negative in the comparison structures to even out deformation over the roll gap. Preferred Features: The sheet is heated before being embossed. The microstructures have a depth of 0.1-0.5 mm.
