The steering lock for a motor vehicle (9) engages the steering column (4). The power steering has a motor (10) to rotate the steering column when the vehicle is left by the user to allow the steering lock to engage. The motor control (12) receives the signal (S1) from a sensor for the torque applied or the angular position of the steering.
