Occupant protection apparatus for vehicle

The occupant protection device includes a roll bar(B) supporting a headrest assembly(K), and a preloaded energy accumulator(F) for fast adjustment of the roll bar into the protection position. Between the energy accumulator and roll bar there is at least one drive coupling(MK) acting exclusively in the raising direction of the roll bar into the protection position and uncoupling the roll bar from the energy accumulator for headrest height adjustment. A lock(P) for the energy accumulator or an automatically engaging protection position locking device(R) is brought to act upon the drive coupling.
