Noise dampened float type fuel vapor vent valve

A float operated fuel tank vapor vent valve having a reduced diameter portion on the bottom of the float (46) which forms a tapered surface (50). The tapered surface (50) contacts a plurality of spaced resilient fingers (47) when the float (46) drops suddenly; and the float motion is thus arrested silently by deflection of the resilient fingers (47).
