A shock absorber includes a cylinder (51,72,92), a piston rod (53,76,96) projecting from an upper portion of the cylinder, and an electric motor (60,73,95) for adjusting a vehicle height and/or controlling a damping force. The rotational motion of the motor is converted into a linear motion of the piston rod and vice versa.
