Processing for starting up a reactor (3), especially a reformer in a gas generating device in a fuel cell arrangement, comprises introducing a rising volume stream of educts (CH3OH) to be converted in a reactor into part of the waste gas stream flowing into the reactor. An Independent claim is also included for a device for starting up a reactor, especially a reformer in a gas generating device in a fuel cell arrangement comprising a mixing region (6) for the waste gases from a burner (5) and the educt arranged in the flow direction after the burner and before the reactor.
