A pneumatic radial tire comprising a carcass (6), a belt layer (7), and a bead apex rubber (9). The carcass includes an inner carcass ply (10) and an outer carcass ply (11) that passes outside of the inner carcass. The bead portions are provided with a U-shaped first bead reinforcing layer (12) and a second bead reinforcing layer (13). And the tire is suitable for use as a high performance tire being capable of improving initial response characteristics at the time of steering and of achieving cuts in running times.
