A safety net is described and illustrated for releasably attaching to a vehicle, in particular to a motor vehicle, having at least one support rod (10), in particular a lower and an upper support rod, for the safety net, which is fastened to the vehicle, in particular is hung in, wherein the support rod (10) is designed to be foldable by means of a joint connection (11) comprising two parts (12, 13) that can be pivoted against each other about a common axis (A). The distinctive feature consists in that a locking element (20) engaging peripherally on at least one of the two parts (12, 13) is provided.
