Method of operation for direct injection internal combustion engine

Based on characteristic graphs determined in the test bay describing the relationship between load and speed the carburation mixture can be in layer form or homogeneous. Each mixture requires a different duration of the ignition spark. A control system is provided so that the duration is adjusted to the specific form of mixture as derived from the characteristic graphs.
