The method of manufacturing blanks for motor vehicle's number plates entails the printing on of graphic elements (12) onto a film undersize in the longitudinal direction and oversize in the width direction, printing an encompassing black edge (14) in sections, and then lining the film onto a sheet metal strip (10), before or during which the film is stretched by about 1-2 per cent in the long direction, and contracted by 0-3 - 0.7 per cent in the width direction. An Independent claim is included for a film used to manufacture number plate blanks.
