The invention relates to a fine cut in the tread of a vehicle tire, preferably a winter tire, and to a vulcanization mold for manufacturing such a vehicle tire. The vulcanization mold, made of sheet metal or the like, has lamellae which imprint the cuts according to the invention into the still raw rubber compound of the tread. In order to improve the grip-enhancing effect on very cold slush and also on very warm ice, the invention proposes arranging at least one fine cut in a tire which has a fluctuating width along its length. Preferably, several and even more preferably all fine cuts have a fluctuating width. Preferably, several wide and narrow sections alternate along the cut length. The length ranges in which the fine cut is wider should be between 4 and 16 mm long, while the length ranges in which the fine cut is narrower should only have a length between 10% and 80% of the length of the aforementioned length ranges. The narrow sections of adjacent cuts should be arranged in alignment with one another.
