A retractable rear window (1) in a convertible top (9) consists of a fixed glass pane (1) which can be lowered into a storage compartment of the vehicle about a horizontal axis (X-X) when the convertible top (9) is opened. Lateral control levers (10,11) serve to guide the rear glass pane (1), which are guided in accordance with the movement of the convertible top (9) when opening and closing. The rear window (1) directly engages beneath a body element (17) without requiring a connection consisting of a convertible top covering between the body element (17) and the rear window (1).
