Vehicle front pillar comprising an airbag and a shock absorber
DRIVE
February 27, 2002
A front pillar (1) of a vehicle includes an inner panel (12,13) and a garnish panel (14) that covers the inner panel. An air bag (16) is located between the inner panel and the garnish panel (14). A shock absorber (15) is located adjacent to the air bag and is located between the inner panel and the garnish panel. The shock absorber (15) is fixed to the pillar frame and is separated from the garnish panel. When a primary collision of the vehicle occurs, a secondary collision between a passenger and the front pillar is prevented by the air bag. Even if the passenger directly hits the front pillar, the shock absorber reduces shock accompanying the secondary collision.
