Security arrangement for mounting a battery

The battery mounting for a motor vehicle has a battery tray and cover plate. The mounting (40) has guides to allow the battery to move backwards under and impact. The guides allow the battery to clear suspension mountings (17) and other fixings in the vehicle bodywork. The guides can include break-away mountings (50) for the battery.
