Rain sensor, in particular for a vehicle

The rain sensor for the rear window (14) of a car comprises an LED (16) which emits light pulses to detect rain and a photodetector (18) which detects the light when it is reflected from the window pane. The novelty is that the LED is designed to also act as a brake light.
