The tonneau cover (14) is movable from an extended position covering a storage well (28) for a convertible top or retractable hardtop of a vehicle (10) to a tonneau stowed position wherein the tonneau cover (14) is suspended below the decklid (12) of the vehicle (10). The linkage system includes right (20) and left (22) side linkages each of which include a four bar link made up of the tonneau cover, a cylinder mounting bracket (36), a front control link (32) and a rear control link (34). The linkage is driven by a hydraulic cylinder (30) through an arc of approximately 180°. The hydraulic cylinder is movably mounted on a cylinder rod (50) that is mounted to the decklid (12).",
