The airbag in its unfolded state is cylindrically constructed in the main section, and to the main section are connected side sections through which the main section is closed. Each side section is formed by sewing up the side ends of the airbag's fabric layers (111-114) which are produced by the folding of a cylindrical fabric sleeve. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the manufacture of an airbag in which the fabric layers of segments lying one upon the other are sewn up along their side ends by a cross seam (108).
